| Curator NMM |
The Earth System Curator team is creating a software environment for assembling, running, and archiving information about climate models. One of the first goals of the Curator project is to help supplement and refine metadata schema such as the Climate and Forecast (CF) and Numerical Model Metadata (NMM) conventions so that they better serve model analysis projects, and so that they are complete and precise enough to serve as the foundation for software tools that can automate workflow tasks. |

| GENIE |
Creating a Grid ENabled Integrated Earth system modelling framework for the community.
Our objectives are to develop a Grid-based computing framework which will allow us:
- to flexibly couple together state-of-the-art components to form a unified Earth System Model (ESM),
- to execute the resulting ESM across a computational Grid,
- to share the distributed data produced by simulation runs, and
- to provide high-level open access to the system, creating and supporting virtual organisations of Earth System modellers.

| GENIE Gridspec |
The gridspec is a way of describing the grids used in Earth system models. It is intended to provide a standard format (or 'schema') for describing grids.
A gridspec proposal is currently being worked on by V. Balaji (GFDL). The proposal currently consists of a document that describes the proposed standard, implemented as an extension to the NetCDF Climate and Forecast (CF) conventions, and a couple of UML class diagrams that provide a diagrammatic overview of the proposed grid schema.
As part of the work to create a version of the GENIE ESM framework using the PRISM coupler (OASIS) using the Bespoke Framework Generator (BFG) tool, a working implementation of Balaji's grid schema proposal is being developed. This gridspec implementation will be used to describe the grids used by individual GENIE models, allowing BFG to generate automatically the PRISM grid initialisation code for each model required for OASIS coupling. A draft of this gridspec is presented below. |
| Mosaic Grid Schema (Balaji, GFDL) |
This schema comprehensively describes structured, multi-patch grids used to discretize fields within climate model and describe the data output from those models. |
| NumSim Discovery Metadata |
The DIF describes datasets at the discovery level, but where simulations are involved, discovery metadata needs more information than is available in the existing schema. |

| CF |
The CF conventions for climate and forecast metadata are designed to promote the processing and sharing of files created with the netCDF API The conventions define metadata that provide a definitive description of what the data in each variable represents, and of the spatial and temporal properties of the data. This enables users of data from different sources to decide which quantities are comparable, and facilitates building applications with powerful extraction, regridding, and display capabilities. |

It's a first draft, but the tools in the tarball will compile and work as specified, so they are usable.
Please check back soon: over the next few days and weeks, I'll add some visual examples, some test cases that don't quite work yet, and the parallel versions of these tools (that don't reproduce bitwise when the processor count is changed). |
